Breaking News: Suicide bombing in Islamabad kills 12 and at least 27 more injured when a bomber detonated outside a court in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, Pakistan’s interior minister said. A “suicide bomber” had aimed to blow up the district courthouse, but failed to receive access, Mohsin Naqvi stated.

Naqvi further said the Authorities would find the individual responsible for this bombing, and those involved would be legally brought to justice. In recent years, it has been uncommon for suicide blasts to occur in Islamabad. Images from the scene on Tuesday showed the charred shell of a car and a police cordon.

Among the 27 injured Naqvi stated, are “under treatment.” He said the attacker waited for up to 15 minutes before detonating the bomb near a police vehicle. Condemning the  blast, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari said he “strongly condemned”.

A lawyer, who said he was parking in front of the court at the time, heard a “loud bang”. Rustam Malik spoke to the CNN news agency. Offices were sounding alarms in the complex, he said, adding, “Lawyers and people were trying to run in. “Two dead bodies were lying on the gate, and several cars were on fire.”

A suicide bomber last struck the capital of Pakistan almost three years ago, killing a police officer and wounding several others. Since then, there have been suicide attacks in other parts of the country, but not in Islamabad.
